Drumlassie Rescue Centre is a small, private rescue centre, dedicated to the care of unwanted, abandoned and unloved pets, and is part of a working farm. We provide a permanent home for rabbits and guinea pigs, small birds, ducks, geese and hens, not to mention a couple of pet lambs and a special cow and her calf!
Cats and kittens are catered for, too, with the majority finding loving homes. All adult cats are neutered before rehoming and we make sure any kitten placed with a new owner is also neutered at the correct time.
We have no space for dogs or puppies, but will try to find new homes if anyone asks our help. Two years ago, a pregnant collie was dumped at the Centre, and two of the puppies are now working sheepdogs. Fatso Pup and Bess are now valuable members of the workforce!
Daisy, the cow, was due to be slaughtered but was rescued in the nick of time. She gave birth to a calf earlier this year, and is very proud of her daughter, Danielle. Both of them live alongside the other cattle but both of them will live out their lives on the farm.
The hens are all ex-battery, poor specimens when bought for the rescue centre, but are now healthy, happy girls, laying well. There are a few characters, namely Henny, Florence and Freda.
Jakey-Boy was a frail wee lamb when brought to the Centre by a farmer friend but thanks to loving care, he has grown into a fine figure of a boy and at 5 months old won a prize at Banchory Agricultural Show in the pet lamb section, just as Teenie did last year!
